Shopping for the Right Clothes ? How to not look out of place!

It can be extremely embarrassing if you land up at a formal occasion in the most casual of clothes. Even more embarrassing is when you are overdressed for the occasion – imagine wearing a long dress for an evening by the pool. Those who dress well may or may not have a knack for the same. Neither do they have any kind of telepathic powers by which they can guess what other people are going to wear. There are just a few things that they do before they head out for the evening.

The first thing that you should ensure is that you check a few things with the host. This includes the number of people that have been invited for the party, the time of the party and whether there is a theme that has been planned. Knowing the answers to these questions can easily solve your troubles to a large extent since you will be able to pick an appropriate dress from your wardrobe.

In case you feel that you do not have something right for the occasion, do not hesitate to shop around for something that will go well for the event. A good idea is to look through the Internet and check out the latest fashion trends so that you know what is in and what is not when you look into stores. The store personnel are not likely to help you with this because they will want their last season stock to get over in any case.

Saving While You’re Spending?-An Oxymoron

Many people today are seeing that their money does not stretch nearly as far as it used to.  Regardless of how little income may be coming into the home, there are still certain expenses that cannot be neglected.  Aside from bills such rent or mortgage, utilities, and food, sometimes there are other unpredictable yet necessary expenses such as clothing.

As the weather gets warmer, people begin to pull out their clothing from last summer. They may quickly begin to see that the clothes do not fit like they did last year, and a whole new wardrobe may have to be purchased.  How can an entire wardrobe be purchased without breaking the bank?

In an effort to save money when shopping, people on a mission should consider shopping at Sears. Here they can find numerous quality items that can withstand normal wear and tear of everyday use. The store has been in business for over 100 years, and has an incredible assortment of apparel for all members of the family, in addition to a variety of other household items.

Frugal individuals need to have a mindset that, although they are spending money, they need to be trying to save as much money as possible as well. Even though the concept is a bit of an oxymoron, if smart shopping tools are applied, savings can be phenomenal.

Why School Dress Codes Exist

There has always been a need for schools to enforce standards for the way in which students dress. The students most often do not understand the reason why they are being dictated about appropriate clothing. What they do not realize is that our schools are given the task of preparing our children for their future as adults. This does not just mean giving them the knowledge necessary to succeed but also growth in areas such as character and work ethics.

In nearly every job there is some sort of dress code. Whether it is a fast food uniform required or a specific color of suit recommended by a law firm, there are standards to be followed. Sometimes they are specified, but often they are dictated by common sense. It is the later instance in which it is imperative for the person to be able to discern what is acceptable on their own. Students can learn this skill by recognizing the standards placed upon them in school. Instead of being infuriated that they cannot wear something, they should think about the reasoning behind the restriction.

For example, skirt length is often regulated. One reason for this is so that the student is not providing a view that would be distracting to others and have them formulate a judgment about the student that is not accurate. In an office environment, this same problem could occur from a skirt that is of an improper length. Other clothing choices such as improper language would also be detrimental.

It is good to consider the reason for a rule so you are less likely to find it offensive.

Shopping for the Best Deals in Fashion

If you’re wondering how or where to find your next best fashion deals, look no further. Wrangle up the best deals on the planet by shopping at these great places:

  • Keep your eyes open at garage sales and you will see wonderful buys to boot, perhaps just around the corner. Get to garage sales early to get the best deals; if the garage sale opens at 8:00, for example, get there by 7:45 when the home owners are still setting up.
  • Check out consignment shops. If you donate your own goods—clothing that is still wonderful but that you’ve grown tired of, you’ll get a nice credit at the store to purchase other things you’ve only been dreaming about.

  • Sale racks are great—especially when you can buy off season and plan for the future. Purchase fall clothes at the end of fall, and summer clothes at the end of summer.
  • Let others know what you are looking for. They may find a great deal when they are out (or online) shopping that they can pass along to you. Do the same for them. If you see a great find that you think they’d like, give them a call.
  • Never be afraid to try something on that you’re only “wondering” about. Often, things that look boring on the rack are splendid on. The opposite is also true. Make sure you buy only what you’re going to wear.

Stand out from the crowd! Purchase only those items that make you shine! There’s no reason to purchase something—good deal or not—and have it sit in the closet because you don’t really like it.

Using Accessories With Your Wardrobe

Accessories can go a long way in making an outfit look complete. An otherwise plain pair of jeans and a cute sweater can be dressed up for a dinner out with a quick addition of accessories. Not only can attire be dressed up though, it can also be dressed down with the right items and the proper placement. If you have an outfit that you really like, but don’t often wear, try adding accessories to it and you might just find that it becomes one of your favorites frocks.

As far as retail ready accessories, look for belts, scarves, pins and of course jewelry. Belts can do a lot for both fit and appearance. Wide belts work better for people with thicker waists as skinny belts can cause waistbands to roll. Many of today’s belts are finished with some sort of décor, whether it’s a faux finish of some type or jewels and studs. Scarves are very versatile. Use them around the neck as they were meant to be used, use them as a cute belt, or even wrap them around your hair for a throwback look. Pins can be used in a typical placement—somewhere near the bust line—or they could be used on the cuffs of jeans or the shoulders of blouses. Jewelry is fairly self-explanatory. Wear it small, wear it big, play and have fun.

Use fashion accessories to your advantage. With the addition of accessories, you could wear the same outfit two days in a row and no one would be the wiser. Whichever items you choose to play up your favorites duds, make sure you have a good time with it.

Clothes For Teenagers

Shopping for your teenager can be a hair-raising (make that “hair-pulling”) experience. Whether you have you a teen daughter or a teen son, clothing style is just something on which parents and kids rarely agree. Figuring what to buy for your child can be difficult, but it is certainly not impossible. Take a good look at your teenager’s way of dressing when they have had no input from anyone else—particularly other adults. Take clues from the way their friends dress as well. Of course, the easiest way of all is just to take your child shopping with you as you are guaranteed to find something that will work.

Kids tend to try to find their personality though the clothing that they wear. Once they think they may have found out something about themselves, that signature style will yet again change. All this clothes shopping and mind changing can get a little crazy, but you can keep up by making sure the pieces they buy are interchangeable—just in case they change their minds next week. Watch not only what, but how your kids wear their clothes. Try to purchase items that will wear the same way and keep the color palette similar to what they typically wear.

The best way to have a successful shopping trip for your teenager is to let them shop with you. Whether you go to the store or shop online, your child can be there to make the final decision on what they deem an approved article of clothing. If shopping without your teen is necessary, at the very least keep your receipt. Try to remember that your kid is in the process of evolving and their clothing choices—while often a little… unique—are very important to them.

Work-Wear Without the Work

Advances in fashion design over the years have made work wardrobes easier to afford and maintain. Many of today’s pieces are multi-functional and can be cleaned at home. Years ago, pieces were made to be paired and rarely went with anything else. Most items were dry clean only or had to be ironed prior to wear. Thankfully the essentials can now be purchased at a reasonable price as well. With tight budgets abounding, the more wear you can get out of a single piece, the better.

When shopping for work wear, be sure to look for hand washable, no iron suit sets. You will usually find these as a 4 piece solid color set consisting of pants, a skirt, a jacket and a vest. Purchase one in black—always a classic—and another in either navy or brown since both work well with other colors. Try to buy different skirt or pant styles with each set so you have some variation. Button down or fitted tops will wear easy with these suits. Sweaters will also work well with both the skirts and the pants.

Take time on Sunday evening to plan your outfits for each day of the week. Group together the items you plan to wear and add your accessories as well. Lay everything out the night before (just as you have your kids do). This will save you time on a hectic morning. Since you are using neutral base colors, you should have numerous colors of tops to fit your mood. Solid colored tops will present a dramatic look while prints and neutrals within the same color range as the suit will look more relaxed.

This advice may sound basic to some, but women all over struggle each day to find something decent to wear to work. There are plenty of options available that can make dressing for work simple and inexpensive. Use the options to your advantage!

What to Wear – And What to Avoid

There has been a lot of talk lately about clothing—particularly what is proper and what is not. Who remembers the nationwide news story about a particular entertainment star’s dress during a court session? Whether you are going to school, court, work, a fancy restaurant or just a hometown baseball game, you need to be aware of your appearance.

Do:

  • Make sure your bare essentials are covered up! You might not be a celebrity or politician, but who really needs a bad beach moment coming back on them later in life?
  • Wear a business suit to a job interview unless you are 100% sure that the entire employed party wears jeans and flip-flops every day. Court dates call for business suits as well—at the very least a pair of dark slacks and a button down shirt.
  • If the invitation calls for casual, jeans or a cute skirt with a cap sleeve top is perfectly appropriate. Hot pink mini with an armful of bangle bracelets and hoop earrings? Not so much…

Don’t:

  • Wear something that you would be embarrassed to wear in front of your Dad.
  • Ever wear a tight dress in white, beige, pale yellow, ivory, or any other color that you can easily see through when you hold it up to your bathroom light.
  • Buy clothes that don’t fit. Quality control and size standards vary among companies. Buy an item according to the way it fits, not the number on the tag.

If you are really having trouble with your choice of attire, consult both a trusted friend and a trustworthy relative. Ask for honest suggestions and you might be pleasantly surprised by what you find out about your own style.

Top Shopping Tips for Adult Fashion Addicts

Shopping for many people is almost therapeutic. It is fun to unwind and purchase a little something or an outfit for yourself. Over time if you are not careful it is easy to discover there is a closet full of items that are not truly special. Sometimes these items are not worn, and may still have the price tags attached to them. Here are some shopping tips for those addicted to updating their wardrobes often.

Becoming selective about what items you choose to buy is important. Trying on items before purchasing them helps you to increase the possibility that the item will actually become a part of your working wardrobe. Most people only wear the clothes they really love on a regular basis.

No matter how high your salary is, decide on a budget for monthly shopping. This amount certainly will grow and change based on your lifestyle and career path.

Invest in better quality items.  An entry level employee out of college who starts working may feel out of place if their clothes are not up to par with their co workers. It is always better to have ten great outfits of high quality, than a closet full of trendy business casual items. This same theory applies for anyone no matter what their clothing choices are each day. A stay at home parent that loves thin worn in t shirts, may splurge on designer t shirts. Examples are buying from J Crew or buying silk blend or cashmere t shirts. These fabrics are often dyed with more expensive materials and are designed to be flattering and will look great after a few seasons.

Curb your fashion desires by investing in key pieces each season. Select a few trendy items that work well with what you already own. Saving your excess shopping budget from month to month, will ensure there is cash available for great deals for clothing with higher price tags. Use these tips to look great and easily keep an undated wardrobe.

Learning About Hip-Hop Fashion

Hip-hop clothing has been around for nearly 30 years. In the beginning, artists would select specific brands of clothing they liked and could constantly be seen in that same clothing. It didn’t take long before the people who enjoyed their music wanted to emulate their style and began buying the same lines of clothing. Starting in larger more populated cities with a larger urban community, these trends would eventually push out to supporters all over the nation and even in other countries where the artist’s music was popular. Before long, companies began to take notice of this trend.

Soon manufacturers were making shoes just for rappers and other hip hop icons. In their lyrics, musicians would oftentimes talk about the labels they wore, a trend that is still common in today’s music. Further down the road, some of the rappers and hip-hop icons that created these styles would launch their own clothing lines. Marketed to the same segment of people that listened to their music, rappers and hip-hop artists would extend their clothing lines into many markets, including seasonal clothing, accessories, audio visual equipment, and even premium vodkas and other luxury items.

Today, these clothing lines are more popular than ever and have built an industry that is worth billions of dollars. Rappers like Jay-Z have created popular lines of clothing under the Rocawear brand name, which produced revenues in excess of 700 million dollars in 2007. His line of clothing, founded in 1999, includes accessories, footwear, jeans, pants, shorts, shirts, outerwear, lounge-wear, hoodies and sweaters for men, and a line for women including tops, bottoms, dresses, intimates, footwear, and more. Rocawear has also expanded to offer children’s clothing as well. This line of clothing is an example of a brand that creates a lifestyle around it, one that Jay-Z has called “Roc4Life.”
